Atheist - And the Psychic Saw.

By admin On December 28, 2008 Under psychic videos
From the 1991 album “Unquestionable Presence” Lyrics: And so the Psychic Saw Meaningful ends and the thrill of it all To be an equal of infinity’s divine Searching the cosmos for erected confines Bursting within the motherland The excess soon will exceed demand That I see Man’s existence is to form resistance The timeless reluctance The all forgotten purpose Your spectacle of actions Is the tell tale of my visions Oh now I, see it clear You wish to be relieved Of all fear Don’t worry …

I figured it was some reason like that. Nothing bothers me as much as veteran bands opening for newer, watered down versions of the real thing though. Like for example, there was some tour where Cryptopsy was opening for Despised Icon. I mean, what the fuck? I’m not sure if you’re familiar with either band, but Cryptopsy is BY FAR, more influentially significant than Despised Icon, and a far older band too, but since Despised Icon is a “Deathcore” band, they automatically get to be headliners.

in Monterrey Metal Fest?, yeah i know but since people here in Mexico are really ignorant they couldnt apreciate this beauty of music, thats why they brought sonata, and doro, and COB, and whiplash (which was actually fuckin awesome!)

Which actually reminds me, their spot on the bill for that show was bullshit. Motherfuckers should have been headlining.

Huh, that’s strange. I’m assuming they played some more less well known tracks then. When I saw them they played all of their ‘popular’ songs, but nothing beyond that which was kind of disappointing. Only less popular songs they played were ‘An Incarnation’s Dream’ and ‘Retribution’.

thats weird, i saw them september 2009 when they came to the monterrey metal fest, and kelly did not anounced anything of the new album, but worse than that they didnt play “…and the physic saw” whiplash gave copies of the new album to the crowd!

Recently they announced change of plans of the release date. Really not that big of a surprise. When I saw them in July at a venue in NYC, Kelly said “look for a new Atheist album in 2010!” or something near the end of the set. I’ve heard they’re going to put a cover of YYZ by Rush on the album, and I saw an abbreviated album title on wikipedia or something like that. Judging that it’s wiki though, I’m not sure of the extent of the information’s validity

Well, Flynn is back now anyway, so I guess more Jazz based rhythm section. I’m incredibly curious as to what their new album is going to sound like.

it is ironically true, i would never imagine patterson writing jazzy lines, everything in piece of time is fuckin brutal, no where as techinical as UP but still great, tony choy i can imagine it better but well, its better now that they got Kyle Sokol, but i love the fact that there is not much blast beats, and that the drums are jazzy, thats why everybody loves this fuckin band, every other death metal band, blast beats wouldve fucked the band up!

It’s in the rhythm mostly, a lot of the basslines are heavily Jazz influenced despite mostly being written by Patterson, ironically enough (a lot of people tend to think that Tony Choy’s jazz trained bass style had to do with that element of the album far more than it really did). The drums parts are also very Jazz influenced, very little use of blast beats, and even some of the guitar parts, have at the least, melodic elements of Jazz to them, very unique, unconventional melodic structures.

That’s because it IS all over the place, and rightfully so, how can you expect a band to be called Jazzy Tech Death if it just sits around on the same beat the entire song.
