There is a need in all of us to question things in our life; to wonder, to contemplate to verify, to know. Sometimes that need leads us to someone who can bring insight and clarity into a matter that may be troubling us based on Higher Guidance. Why is it that some can get the value of a spiritual consultation or psychic reading, while others become susceptible to fueling the human conditions such as emotional deprivation, depression, grief or perception of loss of any kind; and, instead of alleviating these things as a result of psychic advice regarding an issue in your life, the readings shift into filling an emptiness that becomes increasingly difficult to manage and triggers what is termed psychic addiction or dependency.

I recall a reading I was giving on a psychic network on the web, where thousands of advisers were offering their services–although no special skills or knowledge is required to give advice there. Since I own and operate my own service outside of any network, I have been able to experience a sharp disparity in the seekers who call network psychics and seekers who call for a private consultation.

Most often, seekers of psychic advice who are calling psychics on a network will call hundreds of different psychics asking them the same questions. Even when advised not to do this, the temptation is too strong for them to resist. They call and call trying to determine if what one psychic said would be verified by another, then another and another. On and on until the querent (the seeker) begins to call psychics armed with information they “believe,” because they have been told, and which now takes on a new quality or dimension in a reading which actually begins to alter the baseline circumstances and causes a shift in what is picked up from psychic to psychic. In other words, somewhere the initial concern gets cluttered with unsubstantiated facts and predictions and consequently new feelings arise out of what they now believe and begin to feel they already know. A real psychic picks up thoughts, feelings, etc., but when a querent has new feelings and thoughts based on what they have been told my hundreds of psychics, this becomes a form of “transformed energy.” Many psychics find themselves struggling with what they “see” versus what the client is telling them. It takes a skilled spiritual adviser to get past these new beliefs and pre-conceived ideas and to get to the bottom of the matter, undiluted by junk (most likely idealistic and often fanciful information where things turn out precisely as the seeker wants them to). A common misconception is when a psychic picks up on another’s emotions and when favorable to the client, it is mistakenly turned into a favorable prediction of the future. This is where skill and experience is necessary.

Many times these predictions are not accurate although many psychics pick up similar details in the past and present; so you can imagine the kind of confusion that will develop over a period of time after consistently going from one psychic to another. Suddenly there is no clarity, there is only confusion, there are no answers, and there are many answers. In fact, there are too many answers–too many viewpoints, too many subjective opinions, too many readings from too many different [misguided] advisers who say opposite things from each other. Then, in the confusion, the seeker continues to ask psychic after psychic trying to get even more answers and it becomes a vicious cycle. This is particularly evident in large networks with large numbers of individuals trained to give script readings or cold readings—a place where the chances of finding an authentic psychic is about two in literally hundreds (approx. 0.5%). This is not a place for someone who has dependency issues. Getting psychic readings can be just as addictive as anything that one can become dependent on– as addictive as drugs or alcohol. As studies have shown, the tendencies are usually already there genetically for drugs and alcohol as these addictions span familial generations. For people who have found themselves addicted to psychic readings, a similar process is going on. Of course, there have not been clinical studies verifying psychic addiction compared to drug or alcohol addiction, or psychological addiction; but rest assured the same impulses and tendencies are inherent in this behavior with just as serious consequences resulting from calling too many psychics too often. The seeker now is going to the psychic to get a temporary fix where the idealistic, unrealistic information given now is what the seeker is seeking rather than illumination. The seeker becomes addicted to the “good feeling” he receives after hearing that everything is going to work out exactly as he or she wants. This works for a while until the seeker comes to the full realization, that they have been a victim of deceptive practices or even as a result of well-intentioned psychic advisers who find themselves susceptible to these pitfalls. That’s when things get ugly and there are now thousands of bitter seekers who may finally reach a genuine psychic who can help them, but will never be able to recognize it because this is the point where a seeker calls and is “abrupt, impatient and ready to harass” an unsuspecting and real spiritual adviser.

I would like to point out my experience as an authentic psychic intuitive and the impression I am left with when I speak with seekers on a network as compared with those in a private consultation. Those who call me privately usually have done their research about psychics, most have often already been through the network psychics and have become totally disillusioned, yet their own intuition is telling them that something real is out there. They just have to try a little harder to find someone who is legitimate, someone whose ability is outweighed only by their integrity and deep commitment to truth.

Individuals who come to an authentic private psychic adviser are, for the most part, ready to hear the truth and they are relaxed and open and do not usually have barriers. If there are barriers, because the consultation is not interrupted when your money runs out, the private adviser is able to relax the client and prepare them for an authentic reading before they start. Unlike on networks the seeker wants to jump right into their reading without hesitation in varying states of mind, and often times is not ready for a real reading because they are on the clock and in a hurry. During a private consultation, seekers can get the answers they need, leave the reading feeling empowered and positive and will feel satisfied until their next reading. Psychic networks enable people who have psychic dependency. They do not help with their problem; they just make it worse by causing them to spend more money than they can afford exacerbating their problems as opposed to alleviating them.

I also found that many seekers on networks can be abrupt, impatient, totally unappreciative of the process of getting a real psychic reading and really do not know what a real psychic reading is suppose to offer or what they should reasonably expect. At this point they are frustrated because they have gotten too many readings and they don’t know what to believe and are somewhat angry and this puts up a barrier to tuning in properly and connecting with Higher Consciousness for the reader. A psychic cannot answer all of your questions. They do not know ALL. They can give you’re their “impressions” based on the questions—usually a piece of the puzzle. They can guide you to find your own answers, using your own intuition. But a psychic needs to start clean with a situation but when a client brings in so many varying factors (e.g., beliefs and ideas that they have received from other psychics), this presents a block. Some psychics will create a fantasy and the seeker then, in turn, feeds on the fantasy, which is totally unethical. A good psychic will help you to find your self, your center and give you exceptional insights, predictions and accurate information. But it is amazing how most network psychics for the most part cannot make accurate predictions. I have found that both the seeker and psychics feed off of each other, turning the experience to one that is far from real, spiritually connected knowledge. They are using each other. I have often times found it difficult to read seekers on networks and I’m sure the experience was mutually frustrating, and this is not what a reading is supposed to be.

For those who have found themselves feeling out of control because of their need to have constant readings, you will need to get this under control by seeking professional counseling as there are other underlying issues that need attention and the average run of the mill fake psychic working on a network will not be able to help you. This can be fun or it can be drudgery. We want to make it fun. So let’s get our friends together and talk about our psychic experiences and maybe one of them will know of someone who is accurate and if the psychic is accurate with my friend, she will definitely be accurae with me.

Wrong! This is one of the biggest myths in looking for a psychic. When I was writing this article, people even said to me, “Why write about finding a good psychic….just ask a friend?”

When I was 19, before I had come in touch with my own abilities, a friend of mine had been faithfully seeing this one psychic on a regular bases. She even made some phone calls to her in-between and believed in her very much. She felt everything she told her had come true. So for a birthday present, she sent me to this psychic for a reading.

The day of the reading, I was very nervous. I believed what this psychic would tell me was going to come true. It’s funny, that is what we all want, yet we are so fearful knowing someone has that kind of power in our lives.

I also want to let you know that the higher powers have a way of leading you down a road for guidance and love, though you may not understand it at the time.

I was about to embark on an experience in my life that would be so detrimental, it would be forever emedded in my mind. This one event would enable me to help others, simply, by remembering just this one experience. For just a year after this experience, I came in touch with my own psychic ability.

The psychic I saw worked out of a metaphysical center. This is another myth that if the psychic is connected with a center or church, you will receive a good reading.

Wrong! So here I am sitting in the waiting room of this center, shaking so bad from nerves that I had to get up and literally walk up and down the corridor. Finally, after what seemed to be an eternity, she came out of the closed doors and called my name.

We entered an all white office except for a huge Indian painting on the one side of the wall. She said nothing to me, while getting out her cassette player and tape for the reading. She sat behind this big wide desk and I sat facing her on one of the hard chairs in front of her desk. She was an average looking tall woman in her late 50’s. She hardly looked at me through the whole reading. She just kept staring at this Indian picture in back of me.

She got my full birth name and date of birth and started talking. The reading was very abstract, not at all detailed or specific. She kept asking me through out the reading for questions. I wanted to know about my grandfather, who was in the hospital, and how he was going to be?

She told me he was going to die in 6 months, that I needed to prepare myself for his death, spend time with him and let him know I loved him.

I felt like I had just been hit with the biggest Mack truck the higher spirits could hit me with! I went home that night and cried all night long.

My grandfather lived 10 years after that reading. He was released from the hospital the day I had that reading. The universal force wanted me to go within, receive my own answers and use my best judgement for going to a psychic.

Another way of obtaining a psychic reading is through the internet. We all know there are tons and tons of websites on psychics. How do you begin to sift through them all and chose one that is right for you?

Does the website appeal to you? Does the psychic explain how they obtain there informatin? Become aaware of words such as caring and sensitive. You may laugh at this, but when someone is seeing your future, don’t you want them to be caring and sensitive?

Does the psychic have there phone number on the website? Call the number and ask questions:

How long are the readings? I believe that when I am receiving information from Spirit during a reading there is no time limit or done thur the email any number of pages is unknown until Spirit stops giving the information. In other words, a email reading from me can be 3 pages or 20 pages. I leave it up to Spirit.

How much do they charge?

Go with what you can afford.

What length of time does the reading cover for 3 months, 6 months, a year?

I have found for my readings the length of time it covers vary from person to person and what area of the reading I am receiving information for. Example may be, meeting soulmate x amount of months and then new job in 4 weekks, that is what can vary. However, an over all reading my spirit guides have pretty much stated 6 to 8 months for things to develop.

What method do they use to obtain the information?

This is a key question because it will tell you there belief system, being sincere and caring, will explain in detail the method and how it works for them to connect to the higher power.

If your looking for a online reading all this should be answered on the website and if it is not then please take the time to call them and ask. Any good psychic will have no problem taking the time to answer your questions. After all, aren’t you worth it?

TRUST YOURSELF. This is still the greatest way to develop your psychic ability and any other talents that you have. You develop anything that interests you by working with it, practicing a lot, and becoming aware of everything that is written, everything that is working, and aware of the people in the field who are making a huge achievement.

For your own psychic awareness start to become aware of how your receive messages. What does it feel like? How does it come in? Is there a specific part of your being that is receiving the information? How do you make an assessment that this is a message? How do you know? What do you feel? Trust this process. As you become more aware of your own space, ability, and the psychic energy, set up little experiments for yourself. For an example: Put out a casual thought for someone to call you. Record how many times that happens. Become aware of your dreams, and watch if any of these come true and how often.

Listen silently, and see if you can pick up the thoughts of someone who is physically near you. Start with someone you know well, like a friend or relative. See if you can hear the words, or get an impression of the thought picture that they are holding in their mind. Do not be afraid of this. You are practicing and developing as you would with any musical instrument, any new tool, or any skill. A part of you is a casual and objective observer. You are just becoming aware of what is there. You become aware of how you receive, and how you can transmit, and then you become aware of pictures, sounds, or words coming spontaneously in.

Some techniques of practice according to the Spiritcommunity website- Try pausing before you do something. For example, when the phone rings pause a few seconds before answering, can you tell who it is? Try it when someone knocks at your front door. Try it at work, can you tell when someone is happy, sad or pre-occupied with other things on their mind? Try to become universally aware, let your mind and body become an antenna to psychic information that flows through and about you. Touch objects that belong to someone that you know and try to see if you sense any impressions of that person. Work with a known psychic who is very adept at the psychic practice and who can teach you well. You need to feel very comfortable and trust this person.

One of the ways to develop and hone your talent is to work with the energy. Keep allowing yourself to receive messages. If you don’t understand the messages keep ask probing questions until what you are receiving comes in more clearly. This is very effective when you are working in healing such as Reiki. When the information is correct, try to determine how it was correct, how that felt before and during the impressions. Was it a strong feeling? Was it more subtle?
